P.S.

Last celeb sightings: Jason Schwartzman in front of Other Music the other night (Bill Callahan in-store) and Tori Spelling at Top Shop! Random eh?

April showers, May flowers

Good morning NYC! Wow, this is probably the first time in a while that I've rose before 8am on a Saturday. Must be all the light pouring into my bedroom. Need to get a curtain for this 7 ft window. Anyway, it's been a while since I've posted so thought I'd kick off the month of a May with a few updates.

Recent music highlights (an homage to NW)!

4/24 - Saw Jeremy Jay (K Records) play for the first time at Brooklyn's Union Hall over on 5th. The show was pretty good and he played all the songs off the new album, including an older "hit" Air Walker. In my opinion, JJ is more style over substance, but there's definitely something there that keeps me listening. Oh and did I mention, UH has indoor Bachi Ball next to the bar? Def going back for that...

4/25 - The Moondoggies (Hardly Art / Sub Pop) played the following Saturday at Crash Mansion, which is some newish swanky place off Bowery in Lower Manhattan. It was their first show in NYC, (but my 2nd time seeing them) and they were totally righteous. I think the singer is only 22 or something but I swear he sounds like he's been doing this stuff for like 30 years. Very impressed, even at 1 in the morn (it's hard to impress me at that hour these days... usually I'm in bed before 12).

hmm... other stuff... was going to see Chairlift play in Williamsburg on Thursday night but Brendan came down with the Swine flu. Well, not really but he was pretty tired and not feelin it. Will have to check 'em another time.

And now, for some recent pics... went down to Florida to see the parental units a few weeks ago and kicked it on New Smyrna beach. Love that beach. Some really cute photos of my nephew, Prospect Park, and 1 dorky photo of me in front of Church's chicken (my fried-chx spot in Sanford)

I'll post more soon, enjoy the weekend!

Hanging in the Heights

Greetings! Just a few photos taken around our humble little 'hood of Prospect/Crown Heights... lots of cool places sprouting up in the area, like the Glass Shop, which was once a windows repair shop, but recently converted into a cool little coffee joint. Then there's the Park Delicatessen which will open 3/26. It's a flower/skate/antiques one-stop shop which I'm really excited about. I guess the space has been vacated for a while now (it was a deli back in the 90s) so happy to see that the little store front will be revived.

And just a couple blocks down, B and I had breakfast for the first time at Tom's Restaurant est 1936 over on Washington Ave. Perfectly poached eggs, ham and grits, and they give you coffee and sausage bits while you're waiting to get seated. Now we know why the line wraps around the block on Saturday mornings - no joke!

Also, I've included a pic of Chevella's - one of our favorite Mexican places in BK, Oxaca style - and are local bodega where you can pick up a tasty breakfast sandwich in the morn. Happy to be in the Heights!

Herald Square NYSC

Here is the crazy view from my gym which is on the 25th floor on 34th St... I normally don't enjoy being this high up, but it was kind of exhilarating running on a treadmill while looking out to the big city. You could see nothing but skyscrapers and the Hudson all the way to the West. I have to say, this was pretty neat...
